REM (Russian Exiles Monitor) is an independent analytical initiative dedicated to studying the political, social, and human aspects of contemporary Russian exile.

We are a team of researchers, analysts, and practitioners with expertise in political science, sociology, and Russian civic space, closely connected to diasporas and exile movements across Europe and beyond.

Our mission is to document, analyze, and interpret how Russian emigration after 2022 will transform political identity, civic engagement, and the future of Russian society.

REM was created out of the need to preserve knowledge about emigration as a living political phenomenon and as an integral part of Russia's democratic potential abroad.

Our Goal

To provide systematic, evidence-based analysis of Russian political exile as a global and evolving phenomenon.
To connect fragmented knowledge about exile communities — gathering separate pieces, signals, and observations to reveal a coherent, fuller picture of what Russian exile has become.
To document human stories of adaptation, political action, ambivalence, and silence, ensuring that the lived experience of exile enters the historical record rather than disappearing in dispersion.
To bridge academia, journalism, and civil society, transforming isolated observations into understanding and raw data into meaningful insight.
